THE REBOZO Palacios Productions works directly with the rebozo artists in Santa Maria del Río, San Luis Potosí, known as "la cuna" or the cradle of the rebozo in México. We also have several from Michoacan which strives to preserve this cultural, creative and artistic tradition. Many of these rebozos are made on a backstrap loom and finished by "empuntadoras" or women who detail the extravagant fringes, one-by-one, strand-by-strand. It takes approximately four months to complete these shawls, beginning with ikat dying that produces designs, to hand weaving the fringes. At times the entire family is involved in the process, as they have been for generations. Women love the tradition of wearing these shawls that awakens memories of their mothers and grandmothers, yet can be worn in so many current styles. A quality, comforting piece of work that lasts a lifetime!
